FAQ

DO WE TAKE NEW PATIENTS?

Of course we do! As long as we can provide our patients with the care and attention they deserve, than we will continue to accept new patients. Right now, I feel we do an excellent job of that! So please feel free to contact us to set up your first appointment:

WHAT AGE SHOULD I BRING MY CHILD IN FOR HIS / HER FIRST VISIT?

Generally, age three works best. Most children have all of their baby teeth by age two. However, at that age, patient cooperation can be an issue, and we want their first visit (and all others) to be enjoyable. I always tell the patients that if they want to bring their children in before age three, that’s fine, and that we’ll see how the child does. If the child doesn’t like it, then we’ll try again in six months. I also tell the parents, that as they’re brushing their children’s teeth, or at least monitoring their children brush, to watch for anything that they may have questions about. If something shows up, it’s a great idea to have it evaluated. Certainly, if an emergency situation should arise, to call the office immediately. Even if we’re not in the office at that time, either myself or Dr. Thompson can be reached via voicemail, and we will be happy to help you in any way possible. The same goes for adults as well.

DO YOU OFFER SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNTS?

YES

Patients that are fifty-five (55) years or older, and have no dental insurance, receive a twenty percent (20%) discount for all dental services. This is our Golden Buckeye Card dental plan discount.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN NEW ALBANY?

I opened New Albany Family Dentistry in August of 1994. I worked as solo practitioner for the first five years, performing all the dentistry, including all of the adult and children cleanings. I hired my first hygienist , Laura Morris, in 1999. In 2001, because of our increasing number of patients, Dr. Shelley Thompson was hired as an associate. Our newest hygienist, Jennifer Wieber, joined the growing team in 2005.

DO YOU GUYS HAVE LAUGHING GAS?

Funny you should ask! But seriously, we don’t have nitrous oxide at this facility. Being fully aware that dental visits raise the anxiety levels of a number of people, we all try to make our patients as comfortable as possible. I personally feel that myself and my entire staff do a great job of providing a relaxed dental atmosphere. Not only will your dentistry and cleaning be provided comfortably, but you will also be treated with the kindness and courtesy that you deserve. The interior of the office has a certain warmth to it and has more of a homey feel, as opposed to your regular office-type setting. I think our patients like that! Another feature that our patients really enjoy, are the TVs in the ceiling. That’s right, we have TVs above each dental chair so that you can watch your favorite show or cartoons while you get your teeth cleaned. The kids love it! Also, we have great magazines. I had one patient tell me once that she referred someone to our practice because of our magazine selection! However, you don’t come to the dental office to read magazines or watch TV. I feel the best way to make our patients feel comfortable and happy is to see them and treat them in a timely manner. We don’t want to keep you waiting in the reception room for extended periods of time. That only makes patients more anxious (even with a good magazine), and we realize that you don’t have the time to be tied up at the dental office all day. This is why we do our best to stay on schedule, and we do a pretty good job of that. At the same time, we are committed to giving each and every patient the care and consideration they deserve. It’s a delicate balance, but from the time our patients enter the front door, to the time they leave, I am confident that they have been treated in a courteous and professional manner.

DO YOU STERILIZE ALL YOUR INSTRUMENTS

At New Albany Family Dentistry, we are extremely committed in adhering to the rules and regulations required by us to provide your dental care in a clean and sterile environment. All instruments that are permitted to be used again are thoroughly cleansed and then sterilized in a machine called an “autoclave”. The autoclave kills any and all bacteria or viruses that may have come into contact with the instruments. The autoclave is tested on a weekly basis to monitor its efficiency and to be certain that it is working properly.
